Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist or counselor, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, or suspected child pornography viewing by adults for which we are required by law to report to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, we are required by law to notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, we will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate or in our opinion the client is not safe, we will take further measures without their permission that are required by law in order to ensure their safety. This may include a call to family members or a call to the police to initiate a "5150" mental health check.
